Bar exams violence
i remember when i took the bar exams in 2003. All i thought about at that time was passing the bar and whether ill remember all that ive read and studied. Honestly, support groups were far from my mind. At the point when you enter la salle its just you and god. nobody else. the preparations are over. nobody can help you after. the only support group i needed was my mother and brother and the rest of my family. and they were all in the province. so i guess at that time it was just me and god. after the fourth sunday i felt calm and somehow i knew i was going to make it. of course my friends were there but then they have their own thing too and most of them were barristers too.. so i guess to each his own.
i think that the essence of the whole bruhaha during bar exams period is to celebrate the law student's succesfull transition from law school to that final moment of truth and the last sunday is the end of the agonizing haul that needs celebration. what did i do after the exam on that last sunday? i slept. i celebrated with a few friends. but i didnt really care about the whole celebration at the bar site.
the proposition to have the 'salubong' scrapped is okay with me. after all it only becomes an avenue for the warring fraternities to have their go at each other. its not even about the barristers anymore. its about the egotistical law frats that never fail to make sure they make news during the bar exams. and what about the loud bands hired to make some noise during that day. it doesnt help either. i remember i was silently cursing during the remedial law and legal ethics exams, simply because i could not hear my thoughts over the loud blaring of sound systems and i think parokya ni edgar and sex bomb dancers were on at that time. it was really distracting.

Cebu Pacific FAs dancing
i guess im one of those who never really give notice to FAs who give flight safety instructions. I mean after the first time i rode an airplane it has become pretty much redundant for me. but when i saw this video on youtube c/o yahoo i have to agree that these FAs break the monotony in the delivery of the flight safety instructions. kudos to the brains of this for making us passengers take notice.

Damaso

Yesterday tour guide Miguel Celdran created quite a stir when he interrupted the mass at the Manila Cathedral by waving a placard with the words 'damaso' scrawled in big letters on it. When interviewed, he said he did this to voice out his objections to his perceived interference by the church to the government's policy on reproductive health.
Padre Damaso is one of the most controversial characters from the infamous book of Noli Me Tangere by national hero Jose Rizal. He was described as as self-righteous curate who used his power to get what he wanted. He was deceitful and notorious.
Maybe the placard was inaccurate in depicting the church in the same category as the character created by Dr. Jose Rizal. Nonetheless, the message that it conveyed was that the priests were acting like the infamous character in ignoring the voice of the filipinos who wanted to be given that opportunity to exercise their right to choose the family planning method that they feel would suit them. Threats of excommunication likewise did nothing to help the situation.
The Constitution specifically mandates the separation of the church and the state. Church should not meddle in government policies. Rather they should reinforce their role in guiding the followers to the teachings of the church. On the other hand the state is mandated to serve the public and protect its interest. The continued ballooning of the population is not helping to achieve this goal.
In the end it is the pinoys who will ultimately exercise that option. And hostile relations between the church and state would not do anything to remedy the problem. Miguel Celdran is a brave guy i think, nonetheless what he did was disrespectful to the church. The message is loud and clear. However, i take offense to the manner he did it.
